A camp stay is an enriching experience that allows children to build genuine connections, fully enjoy their vacation by staying active and engaged, all while developing valuable skills and disconnecting from digital devices. To ensure they can fully embrace this adventure, we ask them to leave their phones at home. Here’s why:
Fully Engaging in the Camp Experience
Camp is a place of sharing and discovery where every moment counts. The presence of a phone—or any other digital device—can interfere with your child’s immersion by distracting them from the experience. Without this distraction, they will be more inclined to connect with others, form meaningful friendships, actively participate in activities, and truly live in the moment.
Developing Emotional Management Skills
Being without a phone also gives children and adolescents the opportunity to learn how to manage their emotions without relying on a screen. If they experience temporary boredom or anxiety, they can count on the support of our staff and their peers. Rather than using their phone as an escape, they will develop valuable emotional management skills.
Ensuring Safety and Well-being for All
Using phones at day camps and overnight camps, like in any communal setting, can raise security concerns: taking photos without consent, making inappropriate or concerning calls, or accessing unsuitable content. By setting clear guidelines, we ensure a safe and respectful environment for both our campers and our staff.
💡 How to Prepare Your Child for This Experience?
We encourage you to discuss this rule with your child and ask how they feel about not having their phone for a few days. It’s normal for them to experience certain emotions (boredom, frustration, anxiety), but these feelings are often tied to the habit of having a phone within reach rather than a real need.
Rest assured that our team of coordinators and counsellors will communicate with you if necessary. This rule is designed primarily to maximize every camper’s enjoyment and engagement!
